Personality: Yato pretty much called it at first sight when he called that snow-like spirit a potentially obnoxious and difficult to deal with teen. Yukine's first conversation with Yato after becoming his shinki didn't do much to dissuade that impression. Yukine 'calls it as it is' and doesn't spare anyone's feelings in the process. He'll use anyone to get what he wants. And he's not quiet about his complaints.
While trying to come to terms with his situation of being dead and being tied to 'that loser jersey' he gradually gave in more and more to immoral impulses, stealing and lying and not caring about the pain he was causing. Once he was finally pinned into confessing, he evaded it as long as he could, clinging to his bitterness against the living. At Hiyori's and Yato's heart-felt pleas, Yukine finally relented and confessed all his wrong-doings and started to come to terms with the fact that he now has a future completely different from those who are alive.
After the purification his attitude changes dramatically. Although he is still sarcastic and strict, the humourless, dark attitude about him lifts somewhat and he becomes genuinely more interested in relating to the people around him. How deep he feels this need can be seen with how quickly he became friends with the shinki Suzuha, and subsequently how poignantly Yukine felt that loss when Suzuha died. Particularly, Yukine wants to connect with Yato. For better or worse (and with Yato it tends to be a lot of 'worse',) Yukine has thrown his lot in with him. But to his frustration, that desire isn't completely reciprocated in the way he wants.
Yukine is mentally and physically powerful when he has a strong purpose. When Yato told him to 'cut only what you want to cut' when Hiyori, a baby and an ayakashi were all in range of his blade, he managed to succeed in cutting only the ayakashi. (Good thing Yukine doesn't fold under Yato's spartan teaching methods.) When Yato commanded Yukine to 'protect him', he shortly thereafter became a Hafuri vessel. Unfortunately, Yato often doesn't communicate well with Yukine, so when Yukine found out that he is actually Yato's exemplar from Ebisu, he was overwhelmed and floundered while trying to find for himself the best way to protect Yato. When Yato directly and sincerely asked Yukine to 'light the way', Yukine felt fulfilled and that he'd finally found his 'reason for living'.
Over-all, Yukine is still mentally a 14-year-old that is starting this life from scratch. He has a lot to learn about the world he's in now, about his role as a shinki, and about life in general. He'll still call it as he sees it and doesn't hold back with either complaints or (well-meaning) taunts. He has a positive outlook now though, and takes initiative to become a person that will be useful to the ones he's coming to care about.
Abilities:
Borderline: A power to create a barrier between oneself and the enemy. Can be fine-tuned to cut a target, keep out specific things, as well as block spells like 'bind'.
Sever: Different than the regular cutting, this is specifically to cut the bonds of relationship between two people.
Bind: Using someone's true name, Yukine can immobilize them. Yukine must have absolute confidence that he is superior to the target for the spell to work.
Song of Spells: When he sings he can cast something like magic. The examples shown in canon are summoning ice to put out a supernatural fire, a spell to call corrupt spirits, and a counter-spell (Yukine's own composition) to dispel those spirits. It's implied that there are more songs he knows, learned from Kazuma.
"My kid's a genius!": Yukine is unusually talented. He created a borderline on his first try, learned how to sever ties and 'cut only what you want to cut' on the fly, and evolved into a blessed vessel after only a handful of months with Yato. He underwent strict training with Kazuma and was able to learn other talents from him relatively quickly. He has also shown that he's capable of turning a talent to his unique need at the time.
Hobbies: He has been studying gardening, cooking, home-making and construction. He was also interested in video games, manga and skateboarding like any other 14-year-old, but has not dedicated any time to that recently.
